Common MacBook Pro Keyboard Issues and Fixes
MacBook keyboards have come a long way. But when they fail, the fixes range from compressed air to a full replacement.
If a single key feels gritty or doesn't always register, try Apple's official compressed-air method first. Hold the MacBook at 75 degrees, blast the keyboard from left to right with short bursts of canned air, then rotate and repeat.
If keys repeat or double-type, check System Settings, Keyboard, and lower Key Repeat or disable Key Repeat temporarily as a test. If the behavior is hardware, repeat will happen even with the slider set to off.
On newer MacBooks with a glued-in top case, individual key repair isn't really a thing — the whole top assembly is the unit that gets replaced, and that's an Apple-level repair.
On older Intel MacBook Pros, I can sometimes save a single failing key with cleaning, recapping, or a specific keyboard swap. Bring me the machine and I'll tell you honestly whether it's worth fixing or whether the money is better spent elsewhere.
