iPad Storage Full: Clean Up Without Losing Photos
iPad storage warnings always seem to arrive at the worst moment. Here's the safe order to clean up.
Open Settings, General, iPad Storage. Wait a moment for the bar graph to populate. iPadOS will recommend offloading unused apps automatically — that alone often recovers several gigabytes without losing any data.
Photos is usually the biggest offender. If you're not using iCloud Photos, your originals only exist on the iPad. Back them up first — to a Mac, an external drive, or iCloud — before deleting anything.
Messages attachments, podcast downloads, and old PDFs in the Files app silently grow. Review each app from largest to smallest in the storage list. You'll be surprised what you can let go of.
If you want to be thorough without taking risks, this is exactly the kind of in-person job I do for clients across the foothills. We back up, clean up, and you get a fresh-feeling iPad without losing a single picture.
