Why You Should Avoid Cheap Mac Repair Shops

I've reverse-engineered a lot of bad repairs in my career. Most of them started with the cheapest quote.

Cheap Mac repair shops cut corners in predictable ways. They use refurbished or counterfeit parts. They skip thermal paste replacement when reseating heatsinks. They don't reseal display assemblies properly. The result looks fine for two months, then catastrophically fails.

When you're shopping for a technician, ask three questions. Where do you source parts? Will you write down what you're replacing? What is your warranty if the same issue returns?

A good answer to the first is genuine Apple parts when possible, otherwise reputable third-party suppliers like iFixit. Vague answers are a red flag.

I've worked on Macs for 23 years. Every repair I do is documented, parts are traceable, and I stand behind the work. If you're in Grass Valley, Nevada City, or anywhere in the foothills, give me a call before you ship your Mac off to someone you can't look in the eye.
